Project Overview

The COOP Live Arena, one of the UK’s largest and most modern indoor venues, was designed to host major concerts, sporting events, and large-scale performances, with a seating capacity exceeding 20,000. The client and architect, who had previously been involved in the construction of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, initially aimed to replicate the same flooring specification used there. However, the original American product raised safety concerns due to issues such as high voe emissions, flammability, and inadequate slip resistance. TPS360 proposed an alternative solution using Remmers Epoxy BS 2000 with Remmers Aqua Top 2KM. This system met the client’s requirements for durability, safety, and sustainability, covering 18,000 m2 across three floors of concourses, walkways, and back-of-house areas. The resin system provided a slip-resistant, easy-to-maintain surface, ideal for the arena’s high-traffic demands.

Scope of Works

TPS360’s scope of works included the preparation, installation, and finishing of a high-performance resin flooring system. The works covered concourse areas, walkways, and back-of-house zones, with an emphasis on delivering a smooth, durable, and slip-resistant surface. The installation involved:

  • Surface preparation: Grinding and levelling to ensure a stable, even surface.
  • Resin application: Using Remmers Epoxy BS 2000 as a base layer for strength and durability. • Topcoat application: Applying Remmers Aqua Top 2KM with beads for enhanced slip resistance and protection.

Challenges

The COOP Live Arena project presented several challenges, including tight deadlines, working in a multi-contractor environment, and addressing the client’s safety concerns regarding the initial flooring specification. The original flooring system, used in the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, posed safety risks due to high voe emissions and inadequate slip resistance. TPS360 worked closely with the client and architect to propose a safer, more suitable resinbased alternative. To ensure the flooring met all performance requirements, TPS360 conducted extensive tests, including slip resistance, stain protection, and abrasion resistance.

Quality Management

Quality management was at the forefront of the project. TPS360 implemented strict processes to ensure all flooring works were completed to the highest standards. The team conducted regular site inspections and tests, including slip resistance tests, to ensure compliance with Health and Safety regulations. Additionally, TPS360 worked with external laboratories to validate the performance of the resin system, ensuring it met the client’s durability and safety requirements.

MIKE MCCARTHY Project Manager, BAM Construction said…
“The TPS360 Team were instrumental in the successful delivery and application of the polished and sealed concrete floors on the Co-op Live Project. The scope of works were extensive and TPS360 worked with BAM at all stages of the project, from ensuring the correct product selection, that worked within the programme constraints and complexity of build, through to managing the installation and providing aftercare support. The TPS Team’s collaboration, high standards in the execution of their works and can do culture makes them a Contractor of Choice and one that I look forward to working with on future projects.”
