More and more businesses and organisations, both public and private, are looking to try and utilise the space in their offices and workplaces more effectively. Making sure these areas have the best flooring available should be, and generally is, one of the most common concerns. When we consider public spaces we can recognise that these are places that will receive an extremely high amount of footfall and traffic which is why local authorities must ensure that there is adequate and strong flooring to protect people and to make sure that the flooring lasts for the optimum period. It goes without saying that public organisations have to make sure that the public purse is well spent on any projects that require funding.
This is why so many are turning towards the use of resin flooring as an option. At TPS360 we have become one of the leading experts in placing these floors in public areas and ensuring the protection and aesthetic value of a floor for generations to come. One of the most prestigious commissions that we have recently taken on is that of working for the Transport for Wales rail network. Major improvements were required in a variety of areas and with our installation experts we were able to make great improvements.
Transport for Wales is a not-for-profit company that has the responsibility of making sure that the country’s rail network is operating at its most efficient levels. They are an overarching authority that answers to the Welsh government. However, the Welsh executive maintains a lengthy distance ensuring that Transport for Wales are given the space that it needs to make high-level decisions regarding the management of the network. The idea of this is relatively new as Transport for Wales was created in 2017. It was set up to take over from a variety of previous companies such as Arriva. With this more unified approach Transport for Wales would bring all services for rail and bus under one banner. This was tendered out and KeolisArney Wales became the runner of the franchise.
Transport for Wales soon came up against difficulties with the arrival of the COVID pandemic. However, the model has remained solid, and the people of Wales have begun to see many positive changes to how their public transport system is run. More changes are planned with the introduction of a Metro scheme and the development of more rolling stock to serve the Welsh borders and the heavy rail traffic use that this involves.
The flooring that is installed by our installation experts is designed to be hard-wearing, is built for longevity and is also aesthetically appealing. This makes it the perfect choice when it comes to looking for flooring for commercial and public sector buildings. The maintenance of these types of flooring is also minimal, which means that they are incredibly cost-effective in the long run, which is often a high consideration for public sector organisations.
One of the first contracts that TPS360 became involved with for Transport for Wales was the development of the depot at Canton in Cardiff. Naturally, the capital was needed to be the hub for so much of the network and Canton represented the best place for this. However, substantial work was required if the depot was going to be able to provide the best service. An initial issue was the flooring of the depot. It was in need of some urgent updating, and this is where TPS360 took up the challenge.
One of the first issues the team faced was the time available to complete the work. The entire depot and office space required changing and there was also a need to replace the existing floor with a new flooring option. However, as the depot and office needed to remain functioning during the weekdays only weekends were available for the team to get the job completed. These tight timescales are not an issue for TPS360 and so a plan was duly drawn up to set a schedule that would see the work completed within three weeks with the depot kept in an operational state. There are also two separate layers to contend with when looking to apply the coating – a familiar challenge for any resin flooring services supplier. In addition, the space was not small as the total area covered some one thousand square metres.
The chosen flooring material was the ever-versatile Flowcrete SF41. As the name suggests, this is a strong flooring material that is made up of a high build epoxy resin. This would go on to over eight hundred and ninety metres worth of floor area. Before anything could be applied, there had to be considerable groundwork completed. This involved grinding the existing floor so that the resin had something to grip onto. This was applied to the storage units first.
The second phase of the project was the office space and a different approach to this space was taken by our resin flooring services experts who used an Epoxy flake system over the remaining thirty-three metres. There was the same requirement for the preparation of the floor but this time there was more of an emphasis on making the floor look aesthetically pleasing and not so much of an emphasis on the practical elements required.
These two floors have made for the perfect environment for the Canton depot. The resin flooring services provided by TPS360 have received great customer feedback and it’s clear that this is a great example of how new flooring can make all the difference to an organisation’s operations.
Here is a selection of projects that we have completed in a number of different industry sectors. They demonstrate the expertise and professionalism that we bring to find a solution to each challenge.
