Project Overview
TPS360 was selected by Aztech Building Services to install a specialised anti-static resin flooring system at the TV Studio within the Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus ( TQEC) Research Hub, part of the University of Bristol Innovation Campus. The project is part of a wider regeneration effort transforming post-industrial buildings like the Retort House (1821) and Coal Shed (1885), located in the Silverthorne Lane conservation area, near Bristol Temple Meads Station.
The TV studio required a flooring system that met strict television studio standards, with a + /- 1mm tolerance for static and dynamic camera pedestal performance. The floor also had to be ESD-compliant to protect sensitive broadcast equipment, ensuring the studio’s long-term functionality in a high-tech environment.
Scope of Works
The flooring system was installed on sprung floating slabs and laid to + /- 6mm of a datum level. This involved the application of 26mm of Remmers Optiplan Base – Industrial Floor Levelling Screed, followed by 4mm of the anti-static resin floor system, including a conductive layer and an ESD-compliant topcoat. The system was installed to meet the precise + / – 1mm tolerance, essential for static and dynamic camera pedestal performance in the studio, ensuring compliance with television studio standards.
Challenges
Key challenges included maintaining strict environmental conditions during resin curing, with temperatures controlled between 15°C and 25°C. Achieving the + /- 1mm tolerance required for static and dynamic camera pedestal performance also demanded precision throughout coordinating access with other trades on-site required careful project management to avoid delays.
Quality Management
TPS360 adhered to strict television studio standards, ensuring the floor met the + /- 1mm tolerance. The use of Remmers Optiplan Base as a levelling screed was crucial to achieving this high level of precision. Regular on-site inspections ensured compliance with both the technical specifications and safety standards. The project followed TPS360’s ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 management systems, ensuring health, safety, and environmental responsibility throughout the project. were maintained Comprehensive risk assessments and COSHH compliance were followed during the handling and application of all materials.
