Highdown Junior and Infant School, Portishead
With building work well under way to enhance its current facilities and to better improve on and off site safety, tps Construction are pleased to have been selected to carry out this exciting transformation.
With pupil safety being of paramount importance, tps Construction provided a building site safety talk to all 385 junior pupils to help increase awareness of the dangers and hazards playing on or near building sites and to explain how easily accidents can happen.
The presentation was organised by tps Constructions Marketing Manager Carrie Pugh and the talk given by tps Constructions public relations speaker Terry who has over 30 years’ experience working and managing construction sites. Now retired and a grandfather himself, Terry enjoys spending his spare time educating school children to help keep them safe.
Following a short video clip about site safety and hazards, Terry talked to the children about his own experiences over the years and explained why it is essential to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) he also spoke about site safety signs and why it is imperative we all read and understand them. The children then took part in a question and answer session; hands were going up all around the school hall from some clearly enthusiastic children who asked some interesting questions. Finally they got the chance to try on a selection of their very own PPE which included high visibility vests, safety helmets, safety glasses and gloves and were tasked with designing a site safety sign which will be entered into a competition, the 3 winning designs will be made into real site signs and displayed along the perimeter fencing at the construction site at their school.
