Winner of the FeRFA Large Commercial Project 2017 goes to ………

TPS360 and Flowcrete

sponsored by Stallard Kane Associates

TPS360 were successful in the competitive process to be selected by main contractor, Kier to play a key role in redeveloping Wales’ most popular heritage attraction within tight timescales and budgetary restrictions.

Utilising funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Welsh Government, St Fagan’s National History Museum in Cardiff underwent a massive £30m makeover that included both new build and refurbishment works, both of which TPS360 were an integral part of.

The existing main building was totally transformed during the project with the construction of new galleries, learning areas and visitor facilities that were completed and opened to the public during the summer of 2017.

The historic buildings and exciting spaces allow St Fagans to interpret the history of Wales and also reflects a diverse and forward-looking nation, whilst also using TPS360’S state of the art technologies and flooring preparations and installations to give a modern futuristic feel to the visitor centre.

Flowcretes’ Mondeco Mirrazzo is a seamless, hard wearing, resin terrazzo floor finish containing a 50% blend of recycled glass and mirror aggregate alongside metallic particles to deliver a hard wearing, eye-catching and aesthetically pleasing solution.

Resin was chosen for its many benefits, including:

–         Aesthetically pleasing – enhances the working environment

–         Seamless finish (except for underlying slab joints)

–         Easy to clean and maintain

–         Abrasion resistant

–         More than 50% recycled material

–         Durability to withstand heavy foot traffic

Whilst on site, the main contractor carried out an APR Health & Safety inspection. At the time of the inspection, our operatives were grinding an area using remote-controlled grinders and triple filter extract systems which was witnessed by the safety advisor. Impressed with the use of the machinery in a professional manner and how the risk exposure of HAVS and dust to operatives and the environment were significantly reduced resulted in the site receiving a BLUE award.

……… because of this the site has been issued with a BLUE, this means that we have gone above and beyond the kier safety procedures and excelled in safety performance. Myself, John and the team would like to thank TPS360 for all your hard work and helping us achieve this recognition. Warren Davies, Site Manager – Kier
